This form of bodywork originated in the Far East. It is based on the
Chinese theory of circulation of subtitle energy. Through meridians
or energy pathways throughout the body, these energy pathways govern
the internal organs. Shiatsu uses the same points that are used in acupuncture.
When the points are stimulated, balance can be attained. It can be used
for stress reduction, relaxation, and a complete system of health maintenance.
Blocked energy along these meridians can cause physical discomfort.
The aim is to release the blocks and rebalance the energy flow. Shiatsu
uses hand manipulations to exert gentle to strong, deep pressure on
points along the meridians. It will stimulate, calm and harmonize the
functions of the body, mind, and balance the body‘s energy flow.
